Do I Have a Problem With Anger?

Anger, acted out destructively, can be one of the most harmful emotions in a relationship. Angry outbursts can be frightening and distressing to live with for our partners and children.

Your answers to the questions in this anger questionnaire will help you to clarify the influence of anger in your life. Obviously the more of these questions you say ‘yes’ to the more likely it is that you have an anger problem.

  1. Do you get easily irritated and frustrated by small things and tend to overreact?

  2. Do you sometimes raise your voice or yell to get your point across?

  3. Do you lose your temper with the people you love?

  4. Are you inclined to stew on problems and become increasingly angry, rather than letting them go?

  5. When you get upset do you have trouble calming yourself down again without acting destructively?

  6. Have you ever said or done things when you were angry that you later regretted?

  7. Do you get angry when things don’t go your way?

  8. Have you promised ‘not to do it again’ and then do it again?

  9. Do you use alcohol, drugs or food as a way of calming your angry feelings?

  10. Are people afraid of you when you get angry?

  11. Have you lost relationships because of your anger?

  12. Have you had trouble at work because of your anger?

  13. Have you ever been worried, shocked or frightened by your level of anger?

  14. Are you inclined to blame your anger on other people or alcohol or drugs?

  15. Have you ever punched a wall or thrown or broken things in anger?

  16. Do you have a tendency to bottle up your irritations and anger then explode when it gets too much?

  17. When something upsets you do you tend to replay the event over and over in your mind?

  18. Do you have revenge fantasies towards people you are angry at?

  19. Have you ever driven recklessly, cut someone off, tailgated them, made offensive gestures, yelled at them or attacked them on the road?

  20. Have you ever pushed, slapped, hit or become physical in any way with someone? Have you been in trouble with the law because of your anger?
